Supports 16×16 to 512×512 • PNG & BMP ICO • Max 10MB

I had the same problem last month. I had only favicon.ico from my old website, but my new theme was asking for PNG. I tried 4-5 online converters – all of them gave me only one size, and the transparency was gone. White background came out black.

So I built this tool for my own site Downloader4u. It does what other tools don’t.

This ICO to PNG converter is completely free, works in your browser (your file never goes to any server), and it extracts every single image hidden inside your ICO file – 16×16, 32×32, 48×48, 256×256, even 512×512 if present. You can download them one by one or as a ZIP.

What Makes This Tool Actually Different?

I checked the top 10 tools on Google before making this. Here’s what they miss, and what I added:

  • 1. Extracts ALL Sizes – Not Just One: An ICO is not a single image. It’s a container. Windows puts 6-8 sizes in one file. My tool reads the ICO directory and shows you all of them with bit-depth (32-bit, 24-bit etc.).
  • 2. Circle, Rounded, Squircle Shape: Want your square favicon as a circle for Instagram profile? One click. You can add border, padding, shadow too – no Photoshop needed.
  • 3. Copy as Base64 – For Developers: If you’re a developer, you can get the PNG as Base64 Data URI, <img> tag, or CSS background – ready to paste in code. I use this daily.
  • 4. Color Palette Extractor: Upload your ICO and it shows 5 dominant colors with HEX codes. Useful for picking brand colors.
  • 5. Pixel Grid Zoom: For small 16×16 icons, it shows a 10x zoomed pixel grid so you can see each pixel clearly. Super helpful for pixel art.
  • 6. Real Transparency Check: You can preview your icon on white, dark, and checkerboard background before downloading. So you know transparency is preserved.
  • 7. Copy PNG to Clipboard: One click and the PNG image goes directly to your clipboard – paste straight into Figma, Canva, or WhatsApp.
  • 8. DPI Control: Need 300 DPI for printing? Select 300 DPI and it embeds pHYs chunk in PNG. Most converters ignore DPI.

ICO vs PNG – Simple Difference

Think of ICO as a lunchbox with many small boxes inside. PNG is a single plate.

ICO = Used only for favicon (that small icon in browser tab). It contains multiple sizes so Windows can pick the right one.
PNG = Universal image format. Supports full transparency, works everywhere – website, app, social media, Photoshop.

If you only have ICO and you need logo for anywhere else, you must convert to PNG.

How to Use – 30 Seconds

  1. Drop your .ico file – Drag & drop or click Browse. I tested with favicon from Google, Facebook, and old Windows icons – all work.
  2. Play with options (optional): Keep background transparent if you want original look. Or choose Circle + Shadow if you want modern look. Set rename pattern like myapp-{size} so files download with your naming.
  3. Download: Click Download on any size, or click ZIP All to get everything. If you need for code, click {} Base64.

When Will You Need This?

  • You lost original PNG logo and only have favicon.ico left.
  • Your app builder asks for 512×512 PNG but you have only ICO.
  • You want to edit favicon in Canva – Canva doesn’t open ICO, but opens PNG.
  • You want to create circular version of your favicon for social media.
  • You are a developer and need Base64 for inline CSS.
